Why Am I Always on a Diet???

Diets are definitely a recurring theme in my life. Although I fall off the wagon OFTEN, I believe they keep me balanced in a weird way. There are times that I eat really bad and then force myself to exercise. Then there are times that I eat healthy and am bad about exercising. The ideal time is when I'm eating healthy and exercising. Even during those times, I crave dessert. I have been been on a Fiber One kick for a while now.  Fiber One coffeecakes and my morning cup of coffee are my go-to breakfast when I'm on the go, which is most of the time~
I recently came across Fiber One Cheesecake bars which have become a yummy midday snack or dessert after a healthy meal.

Easy Smoothie Recipe

Confession...I gave up snacks for Lent (cookies, cake, candy, chips, etc.) and I have been struggling(dot)com! While I knew it was going to be a challenge and that I needed to improve my eating habits, I didn't realize how dependent I had become on junk food. I also knew that in order to be disciplined I had to make sure to have healthy alternatives on hand. I'm happy to report that over that past few weeks it has become almost second nature to pick up a piece of fruit instead of a snack cake ;-). And because eating fruit alone has become a little repetitive, I have added smoothies to my repertoire. My favorite is the strawberry banana smoothie created with Yoplait Greek 100 Whips (shown below).
Ingredients: strawberries, bananas, unsweetened almond milk, Yoplait Greek 100 Whips Strawberry Cheesecake, ice (optional)

It's yummy and super easy to make (see detailed ingredients below the first picture).  Publix has a digital coupon so that you can try Yoplait Greek 100 Whips free.  They also have a coupon for $1.00 off the purchase of 5 Yoplait Greek 100 Whips.  Because the ultimate goal of eating better is feeling better and looking awesome, I am giving away $15 via paypal to help kick start a healthier lifestyle.  To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment below.

Hat Day

Outfit: Hat, Shirt, Jeans- Urban Outfitters/ Shoes- Dolce Vita/ Vest- Thrifted
Although I'm donning a hat, you can probably tell that I've taken the plunge again and shaved my hair.  This time I went full on Mohawk!  After I did it, I was mortified!!!  Then following the initial shock I looked at myself in the mirror and said, "Tia, you did this...now you have to rock it!"  For the past few weeks I've done everything from roller sets, wand curls, a french braid, to my go-to wash and go.  Even though I'm planning to transition this cut into a tapered 'fro in the coming months, I'm enjoying my new edgy look :-).

Got That Old Thing Back

Outfit details: Urban Outfitters ocelot coat, Nasty Gal Taylor scuba dress, Free People Notizia Pieced Wedge

So I haven't blogged in 8 months and I've missed it like crazy!  I've had some of the most amazing experiences in the past few months presenting my dissertation research throughout the US and abroad.  I've also had some doozies, but such is life and we figure it out as we go along.

I feel like I haven't had a chance to get dressed up in ages.  This weekend I got a little dolled up for Valentine's Day and it felt great! I can't wait to do it again ;-).

Savannah Weekend Getaway

Dress- Love Culture Clothing/ Jessica Simspon Cecelia Wedges

Hi Guys!!!  I'm super late posting this, but I took a weekend trip to Savannah for my son's 15th birthday...yes, I'm old lol.  I used the opportunity to disconnect from school obligations, etc. to bond with the kiddos.  We had a great time...Tybee Island Beach, dinner, and hanging out on the square.  I love the ambiance in Savannah so I had to sneak in a photo shoot.  Although the summer has been business as usual, we've managed to take part in a few adventures.  Hopefully we'll have a few more before things kick into full swing again in the fall ;-).  What have you guys been up to this summer?!

Can you spot the Kleenex box?

Are you guilty of living in your bedroom like me?  As the kiddos and I have gotten older, it seems like as soon as we walk into the house in the evening we retreat to our bedrooms.  In order for us to spend less time in our rooms and more time together, I decided to make our common space more inviting.  This also makes it more welcoming for guests.

I believe that a space should not only be stylish, but also functional.  I always keep Kleenex on hand in case I go into a sneezing fit allergies, to get me through sad love stories, and for those moments the kiddos and I laugh so hard that we cry!  Kleenex has made style and function easy by partnering with Isaac Mizrahi to design super cute boxes that compliment any room.  Gone are the days of the tissue box cover!
Can you spot the Kleenex box?

Okay, here's a closer look!

I'm honestly in love with all four designs! Click here to find them in a store near you.

Hypnotize

Tee, skirt- Urban Outfitters/ Shoes- Jeffrey Campbell Cantu Cutout boots/ Earrings - Ur Cute As a Button

So these days I spend most of my time in the lab.  Being a cancer researcher means you're at the beck and call of your experiments.  Sometimes I get super frustrated because I feel like I have no outside life and I struggle to maintain my connection to family and friends.  Other times I feel honored that I'm performing research that could one day save lives.  This is one of those times...  Last week one of my college friends died of cancer.  He had been fighting for a couple of years.  I kept up with his struggles and triumphs on facebook, but wish I would have done more.  He is the third friend of mine to pass away from this awful disease that doesn't care who it affects or when.  I dedicate my career to you, to the others who have died, and to the ones still fighting...
