Pocahontas Coming!

Outfit: Black LS Tee, Fringed Top-Ross/Leggings-Old Navy/Boots-Minnetonka/Earrings-Forever21/Bracelets, Purse-Burlington

I was invited to a Halloween party Saturday evening and had to come up with a costume last minute. I was torn between a Native American and a ballerina. I decided to go with dressing as a Native American since the temp was dropping and also because being natural and getting your hair into a high bun is not an easy feat! Fortunately, I had just purchased this fringed Navajo-print shirt earlier in the day just because I thought it would be a fun piece to layer with and I ALWAYS keep a pair of moccs on hand. Hope everyone has a happy Halloween!

Last night I attended Naturally Pretty hosted by Natural Chica and Mimi J. The event was held at the beautiful Defoor Centre in Atlanta. It featured hair and make up demonstrations, some of Atlanta's own entertainers, and LOTS and LOTS of natural beauties! I met sooo many natural hair and fashion bloggers that I follow that I was literally star struck! Everyone was very approachable and took time to chat and take pics although there were tons of other natural beauties waiting to meet them. I'm so thankful to these ladies for sharing their triumphs (and tragedies) with their natural hair. If it weren't for them I would have fallen into the vicious natural/perm/big chop/natural...cycle yet again! I'm natural 3 years strong & loving it!!! Have a great weekend!

Seeing Spots

Outfit: Sweater-Esprit, previously styled here/Shorts-Urban Outfitters/Tights-Ross/Boots-DSW, available here/Headband-H&M/Earrings-Pink Heart/Bracelet-Gifted

ATL weather has been so unpredictable, but I am determined to figure out how to navigate this 'in between' season! I started the day off with a trench (previously worn here) and by mid afternoon it was entirely too hot for it. I got these shorts for a steal during UO's end of summer clearance and I was sooo happy that I could still get a little wear out of them with the weather changing. I paired them with tights and a sweater along with these sweet suede booties...another DSW find! I felt very I Love Lucy in this outfit. I also finally figured out how to style my bangs since going back to the 'fro. I actually love that I no longer have to pin the front back. Stay tuned for a post on my new hair regimen... SMILE =D! It's almost Wednesday!!!

Right side

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It's been one of those weeks (again) and I'm also still trying to completely get rid of this cold :(. I took the kiddos skating last weekend and I decided to wear my faux leather mini that I nabbed at the thrift store for $5! I also got the kimono for $5 during the end of summer clearance sale at Marshall's. I didn't know quite how I would wear it, so when I received this free people ad, I was uber excited!

I also changed my hair (briefly). Back to my afro already... I got these braids last weekend because I flat ironed my hair a couple of weeks ago, but when I washed it my afro was kinda limp. I had every intention of keeping the braids for a week, but after 4 days I couldn't take it anymore! I'm back to my bantu knot-out (see vid here) and loving it!!! Thankful for the weekend although it's gonna be a busy one! Hope you guys have a great weekend...

Pajama Jeans

Why does it look like I have a gold tooth???Outfit: jeans, shirt-H&M/trench, earrings, ring-Ross/boots-Chinese Laundry

Love these!

Walking off into the sunset...

Inspiration photo: Folake Huntoon, Style Pantry

I adore Style Pantry! I love Folake's use of color and it's so nice to see another fashion blogger who's juggling motherhood, school, etc. I came across her post here and I had to recreate this look! I literally had to rescue this shirt from my "donate" bin. I'm sooo happy I procrastinated about getting rid of my latest batch of donations! I refer to my jeans as pajama jeans because they're super comfy with the elastic waist band and ankles. The elastic at the ankles also make them really cute with heels or boots with heels in this case ;). I can't express how much I LOVE these boots. On a recent trip to Marshall's to return some items that I practically had identical pieces of (guess I like what I like =D), I saw these and felt as if they were following me around the store! I bought them not exactly sure what purpose they would serve that my other gazillion pairs of black boots couldn't and I absolutely love them with this look! I can't wait to style them in other ways!!! I hope everyone has a great week!

Looks Like A Wedge...Feels Like A Sneaker

Yes! My boots have arrived!
I was REALLY happy!!!

I was planning to take pics today, but unfortunately I'm a bit under the weather so I decided to review my recent DSW purchase instead. This order took FOREVER to arrive! I'm guessing that it was due to the size of the box. I went to the post office for two weeks straight in anticipation, so when it finally came I was OVERJOYED (hence my kissing the box)! I opened the box to find the Zigi Soho OTK boots, but instead of the Coconut Gretchen booties there was a pair of heeled loafers! I was so blown! I tweeted DSW and they immediately emailed me regarding correcting the mix up. I was given a $10 refund and my booties were to be upgraded to 2-day expedited shipping. The refund was credited within a week, but the expedited shipping didn't happen...possibly because I ship to a PO Box? I finally received the correct shoes 7-10 business days after I contacted them about the mix up.

I love the Zigi's! I rated them 4 out of 5 stars only because they are a little narrow, but they are leather so they should stretch. I can't wait to wear them with leggings, skirts, shorts, and dresses...ok...well EVERYTHING!

I have mixed feelings about the Coconut booties (maybe because it took a month to get them). They're cute and somewhat comfortable. The fit is good and the sole is rubber which is great, so it looks like a wedge but feels like a sneaker ;). The somewhat refers to the heel height. They're a little high for me and I'm not sure how practical they will be for daily wear so I'm on the fence...

In spite of this experience, I'm still a fan of DSW. In fact, I placed another order last week. Can we say addict!?! I couldn't resist... With double rewards, I got $20 in DSW rewards, I had a coupon for $5 off, there was another coupon code for $15 off the purchase of 2 pairs, and free shipping!!!

Now that I've updated my shoe collection, I have to step up my clothing game because flowy dresses with tall boots are NOT enough to ward off the cold. I learned that the hard way!

Topsy Turby

Hair: turban with feathered bangs
I wore the turban with this!

Belt added a little definition and I love how the bracelets picked up the colors in the turban & skirt

curtsey ;)

Shaking it up!!!

Outfit: Shirt, Scarf (turban), Belt-old/Skirt, Shoes, Bracelets-Urban Outfitters/Earrings-Burlington

Today I attended an aqiqah, an Islamic baby naming ceremony. I recently purchased this skirt at UO and since it is customary for Muslim women to dress modestly, I thought this would be a great occasion to debut it! I decided to cover my hair (partially) for the same reason.

I am not much of a long skirt person, but I couldn't resist the floral print of this one and the contrasting pastel and black combination. I also caught it on sale for about $13 bucks. Score! I am super pleased with this outfit and cannot wait to style this skirt with boots and a leather jacket when the weather permits! Hope everyone had a great weekend...

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow...

Grecian Braid

Outfit: Shirt, Jeans, Earrings-Ross/Shoes-Anthropologie/Bracelets-H&M, Burlington

Adding the braid to my accessories

Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow

That I shall say good night till it be morrow ~Shakespeare

Hair post!!! I introduced my bangs in my last post and, yes, I'm still getting used to them! Part of that process is trying new new things. My sister introduced me to blogger, Shirley Eniang, from London and I LOVE her style. She posted a hair tutorial on this style (minus the bangs) and I knew I had to try it the next time my hair was straight. Find Shirley's vid here. I am pleased with the result and will def be adding this to my style repertoire.

I have been going ca-ray-zay with animal print lately! I wasn't planning to post this outfit since it's one of my "go-to's". It's kinda like jeans & leopard print shirt with green spots :/. I decided to post it because my sister created an outfit with similar pants and instead of the obvious (matchy) combination, she used color blocking. See her post here. I will be recreating this look (minus the Louboutin's, unless I win the lotto). Happy Hump Day!!!

Leopard & Lace

Bangs!!!Outfit: shirt, pendant, earrings-thrifted/dress-Urban Outfitters/tights-Ross/shoes-MIA Trainee c/o DSW/necklace-Forever 21/Bracelet-Burlington

Inspiration photo: Urban Outfitters

DO NOT BE ALARMED! I flat ironed my hair, got a much needed trim, and bangs (which I've been debating forever). Admittedly... I did almost shed a tear seeing my chin-length locks on that black cape, but I have grown to love my bangs and can't wait to style them different ways! Although the true test will be how they look when I go back to the 'fro...

The outfit is based on another one of UO's early fall looks. This one is my absolute fave and the main reason I decided to recreate the looks. See previous early fall look replicas: Mundane Monday, Tried it again Tues, and Wednesday ...

I was particularly excited about this post because I was able to incorporate some of my newly thrifted items! I've been thrifting A LOT lately!!! Although I've nabbed some great finds at even greater prices, if I don't wear these things I'm just accumulating more stuff :/. How did I do?
