I've been wanting to take pics at this location near my job FOREVER!  Thanks to my co-worker for being my photographer!  She's such a sport!!!

Hair: Styled during the Carol's Daughter Holiday Soiree here
Added a DIY headband to lay down those edges & add a little fun!

My 2011 Vision Board (Sorry about the photo quality :/)
1. Strengthen my relationship with God
Definitely improved in this area and growing more daily

2. Improve relationships (family, friends, romantic)
This was up & down, but I'm still striving

3. Spend more quality time with kids
As a single mom, it's tough balancing everything but I did improve in this area and am trying to get better all of the time

4. Graduate
Yes!  I completed my Master of Science in Biomedical Research!!!
Now on to the next one (in my Jay Z voice)!

5. Stick to budget/No shopping
Epic fail here, lol
I've set new parameters for this one. I'm on a shopping restriction 'til my birthday (April) and I'll set a new goal then.

6. Have fun & relax (i.e. music, pamper myself, dance...)
I've dramatically improved here!
Saw Angie Stone, Lauryn Hill, and Sade in concert woot woot!

7. Write (dissertation, blog, journal)
Yes! Completed my thesis and started my blog =D

8. Attend Seminars (enhance career)
Ummm...completed several scientific training courses, but still feel like I could've done more...

9. 6" of hair growth
Definitely didn't accomplish this one :(.  I've retained 3-4", but the ends are majorly damaged so am planning to trim ~1"  before the New Year.  The good news is I've learned A LOT about caring for my hair so I'm sending a huge thanks to all the natural hair vloggers I follow that have taught me so much!  Can't wait to see my progress next year!!!

10. Lose weight
This may be the biggest fail of ALL!  I did the OPPOSITE!
The first step is admitting you have a problem so I'm half way there, right!?!

I'm currently brainstorming for my 2012 vision board.  I'm keeping in mind setting realistic goals.  I also saw a suggestion on my high school classmate's facebook page to make your vision board your desktop background so  it's the first thing you see when you log in.  I'm definitely gonna do that!  What are your visions for 2012 and how will you keep them on your radar?
Happy New Year All & Thanks so MUCH for your continued support!

My Outfit:
Dress, Leggings( >1 yr old)-UO
Got a ton of compliments on my $3.99 earrings!  BCF is becoming my go-to accessory store!!!

Last Thursday I attended the Carol's Daughter Holiday Soiree and I had a ball!  I saw a tweet about the event the day of (yes, I really need to check Twitter more often).  I almost talked myself out of going for several reasons:

1) I would have to go straight from work (didn't think my outfit was fashion blogger material)
2) I didn't bring my camera (shame on me for not having it handy at all times, but glad my Evo takes decent pics)
3) The weather was yucky...raining cats & dogs

And...well in spite of leaving my umbrella in the car and getting soaked leaving work, I still opted to go.  I was the first one to arrive which resulted in me being asked to be a hair model.  I was elated since I was wearing a wash-n-go, but then MORTIFIED when I realized I hadn't combed my hair and someone else would be touching it :/.  Kim really knows her stuff!  She whipped up this really cute updo with the help of the Carol's Daughter styling products.  I was particularly impressed with the Macadamia Hold & Control Smoother!  This product as well as everything in the store was 20% of during the event so I was able to pick up some goodies just in time for the holidays.  Because I agreed to be the hair "model", I also had the pleasure of receiving a complimentary gelish manicure which otherwise was given to a select few whose tickets were chosen during raffles which were held every 15 minutes.  I was super excited about my mani because I love nail polish, but since I work in a laboratory it doesn't last.  This was my first gelish manicure and I was impressed by the speedy drying time (<10 minutes).  I've been chip-free for 4 days even after preparing Christmas dinner, washing the after dinner dishes, and wrapping gifts for my kiddos!  I really could go on & on about my nails, but I think you get the picture :).  If you're in the Atlanta area and would like a really fun (and long lasting) manicure, please check Shara out.  And please please check out Carol's Daughter for great skin and hair care products!
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Hi guys!  I don't know about y'all but this Holiday Season has really crept up on me!  I was planning to post several holiday looks and well...  I had to blog about this dress which I recently purchased at UO for $10 marked down from $100+.  I was kinda on the fence when I tried it on, but when I came up with the idea of pinning it up in the fitting room, it was a no brainer!  I've been very introspective over the past few weeks thinking about 2011 and what I would like to do better in 2012.  Sounds like resolutions, huh?  I'm currently brainstorming for my vision board!  Posting more often is definitely on my list :).  What are your plans for 2012?

Inspiration photo: Free People Holiday 2011

This weekend I attended Dr. Karcheik Alvarado's graduation celebration which was held at Tea Cakes, the bed & breakfast she owns and operates in historic Washington Park.  The venue was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and I had the privilege of hearing a live performance by Unknown Lyric which was utterly ah-mazing!  The group consists of violinist, Kevin Grayson, and guitar player, Jeremiah Turner.  Please check them out on itunes.  Although the party was awesome, the thing that stood out to me the most was Karcheik's determination.  I met her in undergrad and it's great to see her complete her PhD in spite of the story she told about some of the obstacles she faced during this pursuit.  I am on the PhD track as well and seeing her realize this dream inspires me to continue to push.  What inspires you?

Tupac (my laptop) has been back in business for a few days so I'm finally catching up on posting...  Last weekend I attended the I <3 Thrifting fashion show at B&R thrift store.  The fashion show was excellent!  It was great to see so many stylish outfits come together on a dime!!!  The show featured male and female models showcasing casual, business, and holiday looks.  I def have a few new style ideas to add to my repertoire!  Thrifting at B&R has been on my things to do list for months.  This was my first time there and it did NOT disappoint!  I scored 2 skirts, 2 dresses, and 2 pairs of pants for $8!  BOOYAH!!!  I can't wait to style them and I will be making another trip to B&R in the near future!
