Brit Girl Does: The Transitioning Movement

Tress Talk telling us the stories of their transitions

Adrienne, Me My Hair & the City, and writer for the Transitioning Movement telling us her hair story

Listening attentively

Saniyyah, manager of Carol's Daughter at Lenox
Nikka, Oh Nikka

Tarika, The Pursuit of Nappiness & April, Cocoa Report were in the house

Everyone that RSVP'd for the event received one of these kits (Retail value $40)
I previously attended a Carol's Daughter and Tress Talk event here.  These events are ALWAYS super informative.  The Transitioning Movement is of particular interest to me not only because of my own natural hair journey, but also because my daughter is transitioning.  She attended the event with me and while she generally prefers her hair flat ironed, she actually agreed to wear twist-outs for the summer :).  Maybe I'm getting through to her after all (shhh...).  I can't wait to try these products on her hair and perhaps she'll allow me to post a review...  For more event photos, check out my facebook page.  Thanks to Carol's Daughter for remaining on the cutting edge of natural hair care.
Happy Friday!

Midnight in the Garden

Dress- my Aunt Lou's boutique, Savannah G's
Purse, Bracelet-Gifts from Aunt Lou :)

Second day hair, shingled with Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding

"Fascinator" hat-Savannah G's

Sans tattoos this pic easily looks like it's from the 1940's...
So this weekend, I decided to take an impromptu road trip to visit my family...  I found out via facebook that my cousin, who's in the military, was home from Saudi!  Isn't social media great!?!  I didn't give it a second thought...I got my car serviced, hit the road, and drove 9 hours to see him!

Since I had made such a long trip, I decided to pop up on a few more relatives. I was uber excited to see my Aunt Lou...yes, I'm her namesake :).  She is my style icon! Although I have leaps and bounds to go before I'm anywhere near being as fabulous as she is, it gives me something to aspire to!  I took these pictures in her garden.  This shoot had to be the most fun and memorable one ever!!!  I named this post in her honor because she loves Savannah, hence the name of her boutique Savannah G's.

It's crazy that I spent nearly an entire day...24 of the past 72 hours in the car and I feel more rejuvenated than I have in a looong time! Sometimes you just need to go home...

Shirt- old, unknown (got a little peek-a-boob going on, LOL)
Jeans, shoes-Marshall's
Bracelet, earrings-H&M
Hair shingled with Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding
I love when an outfit just works...  I got up and got dressed for work this week with no intention on taking blog pics.  I love how simple, yet stylish, this outfit turned out so I snapped a few pics on the way home.  I've also decided to give my hair a little break.  I generally do my braid/twist-outs on dry hair which requires retwisting every night.  That can be exhausting!  To give my hands (and hair) a break I'm going to try to do wash-n-go's as long as the weather permits.  In GA that could be late October to mid November so I hope you don't get tired of it.  Hope I don't either.  I used a style preservation technique by Afrobella and I loved my second day hair.  It's a HAM right now because I went running after work, but I'm going to try to take day 2 hair pictures after my next wash.  Have a great Holiday weekend!

Happy Monday! Is that an oxymoron!?!  I had a busy, but great weekend!  I posted on Friday about Atlanta's Natural Hair Meet Up Day event that I was fortunate enough to be a part of.  This was my first time actually being part of an event as opposed to just showing up and being the paparazzi so I hope I did OK.  The event was held at the Natural Essentials Salon & Spa in Lawrenceville.  It was a day filled with food, fun, giveaways, mingling with Atlanta's naturalistas, and did I mention giveaways!  Guests walked away with everything from hair products to a vacation SERIOUSLY...  Pictures from the event can be found here.  Please check out the photos and feel free to tag yourself and others.  A big THANKS to Kini of Variety Curls who invited me as a panelist!

The World Natural Hair Show took place in Atlanta on April 28th & 29th.  This show is an opportunity to be in the presence of other naturals, view live entertainment, stock up on your favorite products and apparel, and even try some new ones!  I attended the fall show here and the spring show definitely did not disappoint!  I enjoyed walking around and taking in all of the natural beauty, running into a few familiar faces, and becoming acquainted with new people. I also got a few new style ideas :).  Happy Hump Day!

On Sunday, April 29th Forever 21 was offering a 21% discount to their facebook fans.  I never need a reason to shop but a sale is ALWAYS a great excuse!  I've already played dress up and created outfits with the pieces I purchased.  I even created ways to take some of the items from summer to fall...yes, I'm planning waaay in advance since Georgia's summer usually lasts 'til the end of October!  Forever 21 has some really cute items now so go find a dress or 5, like me, or some items to update your summer wardrobe!!!
