Julia Roberts Pretty Woman Halloween Costume

Dress- Ross
Shoes- Nine West Elegantlyr
Gloves- Halloween City
I attended a Halloween party social a couple of days ago.  I was the only one who dressed up...don'tcha hate it when that happens?!  I decided to dress as a character from my favorite movie, Pretty Woman.  I've been told a couple of times that I resemble Julia Roberts.  If you're giving me the girl bye face right now, that's okay...  I had the same look the first time I heard it.  Although I felt outta place at the social, I ended the night doing karaoke with a few of my blogger buds.  What did I sing you ask???  Why Prince's Kiss of course :).  After a couple of cocktails I felt just like Julia in a bathtub full of bubbles!  How did I do with my costume?  Did you dress up?

Bantu knot-out faux hawk

Sweater- H&M via fab blogger Diane of Tha Crunch
Jeans- UO
Boots- Wanted via DSW
Earrings- F21
Clutch- Thrifted

I don't know how my daughter managed this cool shot with the blurred background with no special effects?
She's amazing!
I'm not usually a metallic head-to-toe type of girl, but when I snagged this sweater here I knew just how I was going to wear it!  Although I was a little outside my comfort zone, I got a ton of compliments.  I wore this to the Naturally Pretty event hosted by Natural Chica and Mimi J.  I attended 5 events in the last week which is unprecedented since I started school.  Now it's back to reality...  I've got a lot of recaps to share with you guys so stay tuned!
XoXo :)

Life Maintenance: Get Organized

This is a new weekly segment inspired by my very first blog.
My room
#nofilter #smh #fml
This happens at least once a week...juggling motherhood, school, blogging, and all that comes with it.  Today I decided to take a pause for the cause and actually organize these things instead having random bags of clothing in my closet to dry clean, alter, and the when I lose 10 lbs stack.  Believe it or not, I'm a neat freak!  I was forced to take a look at myself when my bestie (can you call a guy that???) called me a semi closet hoarder.  I'm currently evaluating my closet(s) and deciding what to keep, donate, and sell.  I'm using tough love this time and getting rid of the pieces that I've been holding onto for a year or more that I haven't worn...even the pieces that still have tags.  I will post photos when my project is complete.  Please feel free to share your organizing tips as I can use as much help as I can get!

My daughter found a couple of pieces

And...well...ya know...

This Past Saturday I attended the Shop a Blogger's Closet event where some of Atlanta's most fashionable bloggers had their new and gently used items for sale.  It was great catching up with the bloggies and I scored some really great items...thanks Eboni, Trina, and Diane :).  I probably would have bought more, but my daughter put me on a strict 5 item limit.  She definitely keeps me in check!  This was such a cool event and it was a nice break from studying.

Manic Monday: Layered

Dress, shirt- UO
Vest- DIY, thrifted
Boots- Esprit
Earrings- F21
Bracelet- Lucky

Flat twist-out
The side is growing back. Should I shave it again??? (According to the guy in the coffee shop, no. He gave me his unsolicited opinion then said it takes away from my beauty...)

So wanted to wear my vest like this, but that wind was a beast! That's my I'm cold, hurry up and take the picture face!!!
These boots are ancient, but I still love 'em
Hola or should I say cheerio, LOL!  I had an eventful weekend...dinner with the besties, studying for my upcoming exams, and a bloggers shopping event (will fill ya in on that later...)!  I've been really trying to step it up with outfits lately since I professed it here.  I've been waiting to wear my DIY denim vest for a while and when I finally get the opportunity, the weather decides to be chilly forcing me to add another layer and not be the total badass I'd intended!  I purchased this denim jacket for around $5 at a local thrift store.  I didn't mind the rhinestones since I planned to make it into a vest and wanted it to be a little funky...mission accomplished!  Off to prepare this presentation and study for tomorrow's exam...

Look What I Found In Teen Vogue!

My daughter is waaay more into academics than she is into fashion.  Since I believe in balance :), I she has a subscription to Teen Vogue.  How cool is it that I found an endorsement of natural hair while thumbing through the pages of the latest teen fashions!?!  While the styles are a little eccentric, except the left side of the second photo (I'm partial to shaved sides =D) It's great that us wearing our hair naturally is now considered fashionable.  It's also mainstream enough to be featured in a non-black magazine!

My involvement in the natural hair community has made my daughter accept her natural hair.  This is a HUGE deal because this is the little girl I would send to daycare at age 2 with an afro puff and by the time I picked her up, she'd have it braided.  It would be sticking straight up like a unicorn, but the daycare teacher would explain to me that my baby was so bothered by it that she wouldn't participate in any activities until it was braided!  Knowing this about her, I finally allowed her to get a relaxer in middle school.  Especially after hearing all the Tia, she's not you comments...  I decided to stop giving her relaxers in January.  Strangely enough she's ready to do the big chop, but I'd rather wait.  Maybe she'll have a new look at the beginning of the year?!

Hello Life

Dress- Ross on clearance for around $10
Shoes- Charlotte Russe
Clutch- Steve Madden
Earrings- gifted
Bracelet- thrifted

I won't bore you with an apology for my lack of posting as it is becoming trite.  Grad school is hell tough. I attended a BFF event a couple of weeks ago at Shula's and I snapped a couple pics on my way out the door.  Sorry I'm not as cheerful as I normally am.  I had a 3 1/2 hour exam today and I'm still recovering.  I'm trying to rejuvenate myself a little before my next one on Monday.  As I'm typing I'm sitting under the dryer.  Freshly washed hair makes everything better, doesn't it?  Tell life I said hello and hopefully I'll see it soon.

Feeling Free

Top- Free People
Skirt -Old Navy
Boots- Minnetonka
Earrings- F21
Bracelet- Gifted from Spain

Hi guys!  I have an exam on the horizon so I'm slacking off taking a little break to post.  I wore this for 'Fro Fashion Week a couple of weeks ago.  One of the great things about living in GA is being able to carry your summer pieces into the fall.  I have to admit that I'm really excited about breaking out the boots!  I guess I'm having a fringe moment right now!  My style goals for fall are to wear more of my clothes.  I've had the top (worn above) for at least 3 years and it's only my second or third time wearing it!  Crazy thing is I love it!!!  Do you ever get into a slump and find yourself wearing the same things over and over?!  My solution is picking outfits ahead of time.  My hope is that this will help me look a little more pulled together (when I'm not blogging), get more wear out of my clothes, and identify things I need to get rid of.  Hopefully I can keep it up...

Have you ever been in a wardrobe slump?  You have an overflowing closet and nothing to wear or worst yet you're simply not motivated??  That's been the story of my life the past few weeks...  I picked up my high schooler and her friend wanted to meet me because she had checked out my blog.  I was super embarrassed because I looked an absolute mess!  Then there was the handsome gentleman that asked if he could share my table at Starbucks... While I said yes, I didn't say much else because I looked like a bum :(.  I know what you're thinking, Tia you should've let your sparkling personality shine...  Don't get me wrong, I know that what matters most is on the inside but the outside is what people see first.  I also feel better when I put in a little effort.  With that being said, I'm back on the wagon :).

Lisa, Julia, Jess, Yolanda, April, Jess (founder of Jessicurl), Kini, Tosha, and Deme
On Sunday, I had a really amazing opportunity.  Me and the lovely ladies pictured above did a photo shoot with Jessicurl after using the products to style our hair.  I love trying new products and Jessicurl did not disappoint!  I used the Hair Cleansing Cream and Deep Conditioning Treatment to wash and condition.  I used the Too Shea Extra Moisturizing Conditioner to detangle and finished off with the Confident Coils Styling Solution to define my curls.  3 days later my hair is still super soft! What's even better than trying new products that my hair loves was the chance to be a Jessicurl girl!!!  I literally can't wait to see the photos!  Thanks to Fro Fashion Week founder, Tarin Boone and Jessicurl for this wonderful opportunity!!!
